Released in November 2006, the follow-up to NSD’s Furious EP features 5 tracks plus 4 locked grooves and is available in both black vinyl and a limited number (100) of silvery grey marbled copies (plus as a digital release on Databass Online). The tracks are all aimed squarely at the dancefloor and range in style through straight up ghettotech (“Gotta Suck Dick”), bass-heavy melodic electro (“Feelin’ Fine”), and the jacking booty of “Hoezzat” to the big clubby sounds of “What I Like” and the title track “Retarded”.
Retarded: this track mixes stabs from Bass classic Get Retarded by K.J. An Da’ Fellas and a bassline inspired by Aux 88’s Play It Loud.
Gotta Suck Dick: bouncing rubbery bass, chunky drums and vocals sampled from Poison Clan’s Shine Me Up.
What I Like: drums from Adam F’s Circles, haunting chords and vocals that don’t leave much to the imagination.
Feelin’ Fine: bass-heavy melodic electro with a lot more going on in it than your average electro track.
Ghetto Locks: the Retarded EP is the first proper Ghettotech-style record with locked grooves on it, and these are more than just that – these 4 loops run at 166.6 BPM so they can be played in typically fast booty sets and the grooves also line up with each other. Add some Jit action, fat claps, dumb vocals or Work That Mutha Fucker hihats to your mix.
Hoezzat: somewhere between Chicago Ghetto House and a more Detroity sound, this track is already a classic.
